Actually, there -are- double-decker buses for tourists (The Big Bus and
Original Sightseeing lines comes to mind), but I've seen the red
double-deckers when I was staying waaay out in the London 'burbs as
well. Never saw a red open-top public bus though, and never saw a
closed-top tour bus.
I took the Big Bus tour on one of my trips there, and recommend it, just
for the fact that you never have to wait in any lines on any stop on the
tour, and your ticket is good for 24 hours - you hop on and off wherever
you want along the way. It included walking tours as well. I think I
went on a "Rock of London" one or something.
