Do you think therefore that the Renault L7X engine, as in the Clio V6,
gets 25.22mpg (average*) and 255hp by running leaner? Capacity is 2.9
litres, so very close.

Your comments on the mixture screw show your lack of understanding of
exactly what it does. No matter how much you adjust that screw, all
other things being equal, the deflection of the metering plunger will be
exactly the same. To adjust fuelling proportionately across the range,
you have to re-shim the primary pressure regulator, not adjust the idle
mixture.
