It's just some stuff that was straight ripped-off from Tamir's
website. You can see ALL of these clips over there.
On a side note, I was going to try and sell copies of these videos
(ala Video Bob style) when I was still trying to save up for my car.
But after Tamir posted these videos, no one was interested anymore in
buying them from me. The only images of the wrecks themselves are the
recorded video of the impact. And it was shot from mulitple angles,
and various speeds. I think that they may even have been an internal
camera mounted inside of the car too.
Each video was accompanied by a 40+ page booklet about the data that
was collected by the various sensors that were mounted inside the car.
And what was odd according to the person on the phone I spoke with,
was that no photographs were taken of the inside damage to the car.
The data was also supposed to be more promising than what was appears
to be in the videos.
Now, a couple of things to remember about these tests. Firstly, you've
got to remember that these are pre-production cars that were
hand-built. These are not cars that were used in IISA tests, like you
see on TV. In those cases, brand-new vehicles are purchased right off
of a dealerships lot, and are sent in to the labs to be crash-tested.
The engineering on these cars was not yet complete. Especially since
we know that the front-end recalls had not yet been issued. Another
thing is to compare this to other DeLoreans that have been involved in
front-end collisions. Most time, the front-end is completely torn off.
But the passenger compartment is perfectly intact. Hell, even in cars
that are involved in roll-overs, the spidercage for the doors is able
to hold the entire weight of the car! They only deform a little bit.
We don't see the cars being torn apart, like we do with these
prototypes that have been crashed in the videos.
