That's why I run R134 -- doesn't hurt my feelings to throw away $12 or
so of freon.
I guess R12 technically does work better in a system designed for it,
but my experience with R134 has been totally satisfactory, especially
for the price (plus I can buy it over the counter without a license).
Just checked eBay for Sanden compressors. Opening bids seem closer to
$150. Same with completed items, but there are a couple that closed
around $100 (a brand new SD-5 closed at $76 with Buy It Now). Used
units are of course less than $100.
Note also the York to Sanden brackets -- in the AMC world this is a
common conversion.
