Hi Walt.
I welded my Delorean frame up from scratch with a Millermatic 185 MIG
welder. It works great. It's probably a little more capacity than
you need. It will weld 1/2 plate in two passes. It welds very
smoothly. It requires 208V-240V. It will run on a dryer circuit
with no problems. An optional attachment, the spoolmate, can hold a
1-lb roll of aluminum wire right at the welding tip. I have not used
this option, so I can't vouch for it.
My delorean's fuel tank is made of 0.059" 304 stainless steel, also
welded with this welder, using stainless steel wire of course, and
straight argon.
