Apologies for the delay. Was writing a paper on Native American
epistemology last night. Ain't grad school grand...
I rigged up my dual exhaust system last winter to free up space for
the Clutch Replacement From Hell. Is intended for easy access, not
performance, though I'm sure reduced backpressure helps that
immensely. Each bank has its own 2" pipes. Mine differs from Matt's in
that I made flanges to bolt to the stock manifolds rather than tap
them for permanent nipples. Tubing loops around the drive axles then
shoots straight out the back of the car. Mufflers are hung from the
frame extensions. Everything is stainless except for the mufflers
themselves (couldn't find stainless ones small enough). Even the
guillotine clamps are stainless.
In addition to improved access (you haven't lived until you've seen
the Valley of Death from underneath the car without that silly
crossover pipe in the way -- no more complaints about inaccessible
vacuum hoses. Ignition distributor is right there too), heat is
reduced dramatically. I've seen many stock DeLoreans with melted rear
fascias. And I'm sure my belts and gaskets are much happier without
that muffler accross the front of the engine. I also have room to
replace the water pump, can turn my engine with a socket wrench, etc.
DMCH and DMCUK exhaust systems are certainly more professional, but
mine cost a fraction as much. After Matt's auctions close I'll quote
how much.
