Water Pump replacement is a rite of passage with this car. And rightly
so, as it's a huge confidence builder too. Once you've replaced that
water pump, you can take on practicly anything else. It took me a
month to do it the first time, after I broke a stud off not once, but
twice in the same hole for the bypass hose, in the head, and two
broken extractors as well! I managed to grind it out each time with a
Dremmel bit. Plus I had to drive across town to my buddies house,
where I was storing the car. So the project was slow going for me.
2 weeks later, the pulley worked it's way down to the end of the shaft
on the new water pump. That time it took me 4 hours to do a water pump
replacement in a dark car port at night. Like I said, it's a HUGE
confidence builder.
I remember that feeling too. I reassembled the intake, the fuel
system, got everything bolted back together, and the car fired right
up. I was just as amazed that I managed to bolt everything back
together without forgetting anything, and driving the car out of
there. It's a helluva felling!
