Yeah, drop-in gastanks connected to a rubber hose... Another reason I
despise Lee Iacoca.
Years ago they interviewd him, after they had some crash test footage
from the early 60's, showing this very problem, and the dummy getting
sprayed, and ignited. 20/20 did a story on this, and even dug up some
obscure memo quoting the problem before the car went into production.
They interviewed Iacoca, and asked for his opinion. He was all quiet,
and refused to answer any questions. His only response was that
people shouldn't be driving 30 year old cars, because they're
dangerous.
Then a couple of years ago, I got the "Gone in 60 Seconds" DVD
(Halicki, no Cage), and there was a recent interview with him on it,
where he was speaking out the Mustang, and it's role in the movie.
And he wanted to thank all the loyal Mustang owners who've kept the
cars on the road, and how this stood as some sort of testament to the
greatness of the car's engineering.
