The hacking that Jim did to the frame was drastic. He
completely cut the crotch of the 'Y' out and replaced it
with steel plate. As well as having the tranny mounted too
far forward for the CV joints to line up well, he also had
the tranny mounted a little off-center too. But all of this
was to make the tranny fit with the 3 rotor.
A funny story to relate about Jim's car -- I was at a
motorcycle riding class and one of my class mates was
checking out my car asking if I had 'repowered' it yet -- as
tho this is something that most people do. He suggested
using a 3 rotor engine! I said that there is only one
DeLorean on the planet with such an engine. We had a good
laugh.
