I sometimes have the opposite effect. People see a dirty grey pickup pull up, and then out steps this immaculately-groomed, bespectacled young guy, wearing a suit and black fedora. Ah well. Either way, it's fun to buck the trend.

Farrar, some chicks dig bare feet.  Some like seeing black
dirty soles.  It can show that one is independent, above
being accountable to the general society, etc.  But then it
can also have the stigma of poverty, being crude, dirty,
etc.  I tell you what, tho: being barefoot and being seen
getting into/out of a DeLorean gives an interesting
combination of looks -- as if either alone isn't enough.
