Sorry I'm a day late (and a dollar short), but if anyone gives a rat's
ass about my cherry D experience, here goes:
I wanted a Delorean from the first moment I saw a prototype on TV
and in print ads. I've always been a car lover and always drove
something unconventional with a particular love for Brit sports cars.
Cut to summer 1998 when I was bored and freezing in a summer
house on Skagit Bay in Washington State. I started surfing for
Deloreans, reading everything I could. Found Knut's website and
was mesmerized. I started thinking about buying one, rationalized
and vacillated for 6 more years, until an old High School friend sent
me a photo of me in college sitting in the MGA I used to drive. That
just put me over the edge and I started seriously looking.
It was at the Barret-Jackson Auction in Phoenix in 2003 that I first
saw a D up close. It literally took my breath away. The car was in
the viewing area just before it went up on the block, wings aloft and
inviting lookers. Only a few people were interested so I got to poke
around inside. Really had to rivet myself to the ground to keep from
draping myself on the driver's seat and making "VROOM VROOM"
sounds and telling everyone "this one's mine." I still had homework
to do and remembered that I had only came to look.
I first sat in a D when I started seriously looking and found one here
in Tucson. The owner was supposed to meet me at his house but he
wasn't home. He left it unlocked for me so I finally got to sit in a D
and I'll tell you all - if I were a guy I would have had a woodie. The
car turned out to be in really bad shape and I didn't buy that one.
Most of you know the story of me buying Sean's car instead.
And I must say every time I open the door and sit in mine - or even
just look at it - it still takes my breath away. The rumble of the
engine when I turn the key gives me an adrenalin rush that's
indescribable. I can't help but smile!
