I've always loved the cars since I first saw BTTF in 1985. I asked my
Dad what it was, and he told me what he knew about it...which wasn't
much. I then started my 13 year trek towards ownership. (I was only 8
when the movie came out, but I knew then that I had to have one) As the
years passed, and all my friends and family got very tired of hearing
about how great everything DeLorean related was from me, they convinced
me that I should pursue other interests. So, I went to college and got
my degree in Industrial Design. Right before my junior year there, I
went to Ken's Cincinnati DeLorean Car Show. Seeing all these happy
owners was a step towards sealing the deal for me. Getting out to
photograph all the great cars, and then having to go back and get in my
parent's 1996 Honda Accord was almost unbearable.
Amazingly, what finally sold me on getting the car was a guy who was
installing a windshield in my 1992 Accord later that summer. While he
was working, I was telling him all about my dream car, and he asked why
I didn't have one. I told him that I had always heard they were a bear
to work on, and I didn't believe I could do it myself, not to mention
the cost factor. He gave me some of the best advice I've ever had: If
you have a passion or love for something...you will find a way.
I took this to heart, and use this advice everyday in my life now....not
just with the DeLoreans, but with everything. Life is a lot easier when
you realize that John Lennon was right...all you need IS love. Of
course it also helps to only proceed as the way opens.
