I probably should have qualified that a bit more. I obviously bid against
other people, but I won't bid against someone I respect, if I know their
username. Some are easy to figure out and other's aren't. I also won't
keep bidding on something that I know will be on again later, as your
example with the photocopied story, because that only makes the next time it
is listed have a higher starting bid or reserve. Someone on this list
pointed that out to me on one certain eBay seller who raises their prices
like this.
In the past I had been trying to get the original Stainless Steel Illusion
but never could. I suddenly got three almost at once. The story ends the
same no matter which one I read so I have been pondering what to do with the
other two.

OK Guys -- I have to tell you that I sell on EBAY pretty much for a
living. At least it pays some bills and buys an occasional Delorean
part ;)
So I see both sides of the proverbial coin. One one hand, agreeing
not to bid up an item is good for the bidders, certainly. And OTOH,
as a seller I know that the bad kharma from this is going to bite me
in the ass someday. The reason I don't have too much problem with
this is that the book is a photocopy so who knows how many times
the dude will copy and sell it. It's not a finite item like a fender (oh
no! not THAT fender) or binnacle.
Yes, EBAY can be a dog-eat-dog world but that's what drives
Capitalism. Greed. I've been known to snipe my share of auctions,
too.
But this book is calling to me. And since it's a photocopy, I figure
it's not really immoral to buy it and copy it among friends. Certainly
beats bidding it up.
BTW, I'm **LP**Land on EBAY. I sell mostly vintage clothes and
boots.
I know I'm rambling. Gotta get back to work after screwing around
online all night last night.
