Yeah, John Hervey sells alternators that put out the most
current (though still not enough) at low RPMs.  The problem
is that they don't fit right, and they are as reliable as
John Hervey himself.

I have had two John Hervey alternators.  The belts don't
line up properly on either -- both have pulleys that are 4mm
off.  The first one was a 140 amp.  It quit working at low
RPMs.  So I bought another and shipped the old one back to
him.  He since claims that he snail mailed the first one
back to me.  I never got it.  Now the second one quit
working.  Do I send it back to him and hope that he doesn't
lose it?  The last I talked to him he suggest that it
happened too long ago to try to resolve it now.  I'll check
the brushes and see if that is an issue.  If I can't figure
it out then I'll take it to a local rebuild shop or just
throw it on eBay or just throw it away.
