I believe the line that you'd cut is the hard line mounted on the trans.  The stainless clutch line attaches at the other end of that hard line.

Try removing the other end of the hard line from its mount.  You may be able to take the whole thing out.

  cylinder.

  The fitting has rusted to the line. I guess I'm going to have to cut 
  it and re-flare the line.

  That, or buy the stainless line.
