John,
A guy in Florida got rear-ended in his DeLorean, and he had
a bit of a run-around with the insurance.  It slightly
creased the back of the right rear quarter panel, so the
owner wanted it replaced.  They paid for it but deducted
what they called "betterment" meaning that a new quarter
panel would be better than his original which had other
dings not related to the accident.

The insurance also tried this with his muffler arguing that
typical mufflers have a relatively short life span and that
a new one would be an improvement.  The owner was able to
shoot this one down because DeLoreans have very durable SS
mufflers.

The accident forced the muffler into the heat shield and
then into the crank pulley which bent it.  The rear
cross-member of the frame was bent a bit as well as the
plate that holds the bottom of the fascia to the frame.  We
got it all fixed, though.  I still have the damaged panel
sitting around here.
