Ok, On all topics, I'm wondering how the ign system is going to do on a stock coil that was rated at 12,000 volts and not much current. Watch out for the coil to build up heat as you drive it. If it looks like it's getting to hot, then you may want to upgrade to the Blaster or Pertronix. Does the lit say anything about coils and what ohmage should be run. I don't think your pumps in danger unless it's very old because most all make a noise. But, With your low voltage problem and the pump designed to run on 12 + volts the motor would make more noise as the voltage drops. Ever notice a ceiling fan Humm that has a variable speed control as the voltage is turned down. All electric motors will do this if your not within voltage specifications of the volts it was designed to run on. If the low voltage persist, that will have an effect on the pump over time. Your low voltage still bothers me. If I can't find them at a shop around the corner, I can head over to my mechanic's shop, where he's got 'em all. > As the voltage fluctuates so will the electric motor that is the fuel > pump and being a rotor vane pump it may get louder under load and wear. > Remember your running on alternator voltage until it drops down to 12.66 > then it's battery. P.S. Did you ever find your low voltage problem. Sure, I do expect some fluctuation. I was just trying to establish the sound I'm hearing as one that is fluctuating with voltage. I don't expect a silent fuel pump, either, so I'm not particularly worried that I'm hearing mine. But should I have one on the way out, I'd rather figure it out before I get stranded somewhere. :) I never have found the source of my voltage issues. Honestly, I've put that on the back burner because the car *does* work. Certainly I expect to see lower voltages at idle, but I still don't like the fact that my radio cuts out at idle. One of many things I plan to do at some point is pull the center console out and get a better look at some of the electrical system up in the dash. I know a previous owner has done a lot of work in there, so someday I need to inventory everything in there and figure out just what is stock, what isn't, and why. > Better gas. We have no knock sensor to control this. The new ignition > system may also help. What are you going to do for a coil. His package > didn't include one. Is it extra and how much. I've got no reason to believe I have bad gas. I'm using 93 octane, and only buy major brand names, and not always at the same station. I've got a couple of jugs of Sunoco 104 in the garage (for fun weekends with the other car). Maybe I should toss a few gallons in the DMC and see if it manages to knock with that. That is, if it can even ignite it at all. :) I'm not expecting much, if anything, from the ignition upgrade stuff. I know a lot of people claim it's snake oil, but since I enjoy tinkering with things, and it's fairly easy for me to get over to DMCH to pick up the parts, I figured I'd give it an unbiased opinion. Hopefully I'll finish the install tomorrow. I ran out of light today. Right now I'm still on the stock coil, which I assume is 20 years old. I don't believe it was replaced when the performance engine was put in. I plan to leave it as it is for the time being, at least until I've had the opportunity to determine what, if any, is gained by adding the performance ignition package. After that point, I may well upgrade it. Since I have the performance engine, this may well just be a case of slightly too aggressive timing, so backing it off a little may also be of some help. -andrew To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to: DMCForum-unsubscribe@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx -------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- -- Yahoo!
