That is a possiability, however I don't think that was the case. I have never had that problem with any filter other than Fram. And I cut every filter open when I pull it from the car. The only thing I don't like about WIX is the poor drain back valve. That is all we use on out fork lifts, old GM and old Ford trucks. And I think all the spinon fuel filters I am now using are by them as well.
