Learning a particular application, or appliance does not let one write their own ticket. The reality is employers want experience in those specific skills.. As long as there are experienced people to choose from, teaching yourself a new skill wont do much good. Not to mention, I have not seen any trend in job advertisements for any specific skills that I don't have (in the IT realm). Being a System Administrator (Windows) for the past 10+ years for Technology companies (Lucent, mostly) I have trouble getting the IDENTICAL job with law firms, banks, and drug companies. They all want specific experience in their industry. Most if not all IT people know the application itself is not all that important (it is easy to pick up on the new applications), but the hiring managers have a large pool to choose from so why not get someone with the specific experience they are looking for?? Still, don't know why any company in the US would feel the need to import talent with so many US Citizens who are unemployed. It is bad enough all of the help desk and development jobs are being exported to India. --- Martin Gutkowski <webmaster@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > Marc, learn Checkpoint NG Firewall Suite, and > integration with Nokia IP > series appliances and you can write your own ticket > as a contractor... > > Security specailists are very sought after at the > moment. > > Martin > Former Firewall specialist for the company that's > now ALLnet. > > Marc Levy wrote: > > >Great...
