Hello. A friend and I adjusted the torsion bars for the doors of my Delorean yesterday. While we were at it, we measured the torsion on the bars while open, and closed, just out of curiosity. In case your interested, it took 30 and 35 poundfeet preload on the right and left torsion bars to hold the doors up when opened fully, which translated to 100 and 105 poundfeet when the doors were closed. Doors closed measurements were very difficult. My torsion bars are set so that the door will stay open all they way when put there, not necessarily open all the way unassisted. Also, My doors don't have lock solenoids, which weigh a little bit. The struts on my car are from P.J. Grady, about one year old, but not cycled very many times. I would consider them broken in, but not worn. I'm inclined to leave my doors open to lower the stress. Rick. Yahoo!
