Well having only driven my car above 50mph once I really cant say much about actual performance. But you have to remember that they are 20 years old and should be completely worked over. My car only has 20k miles and the pads were probably fine but I replaced them anyway. And remember break fluid is hygroscopic, absorbs water. That water will boil in the calipers when they get hot and you wont stop. I have experience with this, luckily I did more damage to my dad's van than my ghia's nose. I stepped on the breaks and they started to stop then the peddle just went soft and I kept going. I have had break lines pop, oil get on a rotor, and even had a caliper fall off. In all of those situations I was able to stop but not with the old fluid.
