I have always secretly entertained the possibility that I haven't put the timing chains on correctly but it seemed very unlikely because I followed the procedure exactly as the workshop book says and verified it with a DMCH employee. Looking in Mike Cohee's Volvo book however, the two books seem to offer different instructions for the driver's side bank. I did hand crank the engine and there was no interference. I've seen the intake valves and they are not bent which is good. -BUT- if the valves are timed incorrectly, it would make for a -very- hard cranking engine. Not to mention, it would even think about starting. I want to invesitgate this, but I need to know how to properly time the driver's side. I'm more convinced than ever that I did the passenger side right. Both books jive with what I did, but the driver's side.... Martin, you should pass me your phone numer off line so I can discuss this with you. You replace the timing chains all the time, so you should be an expert at timing the valves. Thanks, Rich Yahoo!
