Well this, and other things you did, show you are getting fuel in the cylinders, but not necessarily spark. Yes, I know you looked at the distributor/dizzy placement a few times. I had this exact same thing happen a few times before. Once was that the distributor/dizzy was off by one tooth, and another was that the spark plug wires were in the cap one position off. On both occasions we realized this when the engine sputtered and sounded like it wanted to start but wouldn't. We moved the wires/distributor and it lit at the first flick of the switch. I hope you get it going and would like to know what resolved the problem. One last thing. I am not a real big fan of starter fluid, but have you tried a little while the engine is turning over?
