I've tried welding with oxy-acetylene and aluminum brazing rod. It didn't
work. The block would just heat up, turn red and burn. It wasn't like
regular aluminum. Then we hired a professional welder who brought his own
equipment. He used a TIG welder with a special alloy of brazing rod meant
for repairing engine blocks. It worked great. And the job was cheap too
--
around $50.
