Ok, I hate gossip and office politics but I will tell some of what happened since I have been asked on and off list. It's a long story so I will try to be brief. I hope the background information is at least true, based on recent events I am not even sure about that. This guy purchased three De Loreans from an estate sale. The guy who owned all three of them had passed away and his family wanted to get rid of them as a lot. The first two, one was the automatic that sold on Ebay, had a few problems and the seller wanted to make everything right because he didn't feel comfortable about selling a car with problems. He is a used car salesmen. The red flag should have gone up here. This first car sold on Ebay at the buy-it-now price of $14k, I believe, and much higher than he expected. The second car, a five-speed, would run but wouldn't move under its own power. On both of these cars I tried to help as much as I could, also posting some questions here, and other people behind the scenes on the DMCForum were contributing as well. I will let those people speak up if they wish. Through all of my personal efforts he kept telling me it was a blessing I had come along and he promised over and over he would make it up to me. Yesterday I found out he had told other people the same thing. The third car, the one on Ebay, was undergoing a restoration to be a painted car. When it came time to sell the parts car he said he would offer it to me first, and give me first refusal rights. Yesterday, again, I found out he told at least one other person this same thing. I said I wanted it, but since it was the weekend I needed until the first of the week to get the money to him. He went ahead and put it on Ebay, "just to see what happens" and he put the right to pull the auction at anytime for my benefit. All I had to do was tell him I wanted the car and he would end the auction. Then he stated a sudden expense came up and he had to get as much for the car as possible and would leave it on Ebay. If it didn't sell then he would offer it to me. Before this sudden expense came up, he would have gladly accepted $1,000.00 for the car to, again, make it up to me. I told him I was done and I no longer wanted the car and washed my hands of it. The whole situation really left a bad taste in my mouth. Keep in mind, we were helping him out for about a month already I think. He also said the body panels have no holes in them. Well, ok, maybe no "holes" but the left front fender has been sliced up and tack-welded back together. Technically correct, no holes, but I believe this was misleading. The only body panel even remotely close to being perfect is the hood. I am all for restoration, but I believe this is only a parts car. To restore it you would be starting with just a pontoon, and even it has some damage. The frame looks pretty rough too. Remember the red De Lorean I am buying? The red one is light-years better in condition. The engine, missing the injectors at the very least, and turbo have sat exposed to the weather for no telling how long. If anyone is interested ask him for pictures. I have quite a few of the car as in the auction, and a few more with the body panels off. I also have a dial-up connection, so if anyone wants to see them I guess I can upload them to Yahoo. Ok, that was a Walt-sized post. Sorry about that, but I would hate to see someone get screwed over this. Before you posted this, I was going to suggest that you tell the whole story rather than just announce you are disappointed. It's the juicy details that add the spice to life. ;-) Walt Yahoo!
