Re: [DMCForum] rough "billy" idle :-)

If the car hunts, it ain't the idlespeed motor, ditto the microswitch.
Sounds more like a vac leak if the mixture's been set up correctly.
Contrary to the manual, you can use the brass screws to set an amount of
air that will always pass the throttles even if the idlespeed motor is
closed (this will make the engine stall), but it takes someone who
really knows what they're doing to set it up right. NB the Bosch K-Jet
manual for Switzerland (lambda equipped) describes this procedure.

Have you checked the timing? It could be the bob-weights in the
distributor not fully returning to their resting position thanks to 20
years of gunk. I've seen this on 2 cars now and a 3rd displaying the
same symptoms. You can time it up at idle but it will pop and bang at
speed.

car refuses to idle smoothly and seeks whenever i come to a light or stop
sign. On bad days it will sometimes even stall but usually the RPM will
dip to where the red battery light just starts to flicker on and then it
catches itself. Done all the normal tune up stuff and otherwise the car
runs great, accelerates fine and is peppy at highway speeds...I ahve had
the microswitch set up by David Teitelbaum and my 02 mixture is as close
to perfect as we can get it.....my freq valve buzzes louder then my wife
after i have spent 5 hours under the car :-)

symptoms did it give you....

idling? what if i unplug freq valve at idle? will any of these give me a
direction to go in? I alos would like to make sure the microswitch is
elctrically working too.
