If you look at the Electric Diagram, you'll see that the temp-switch for the cooling fans is also powered by the #5 fuse... Since it's WAY easier to reach AND more critical than your gauges I'de check that and its wiring first! Unplug the fan relay (or FanZilla), check the diodes... If that's not it, THEN open up the center console... BATT-light coming on is normal when #5 blows; when all is in order this bulb gets a live feed at both ends, so it won't light.
