Hi Walt I too have had one of their new senders in my car since the NEC when James kindly brought one over for me. I had heard that it uses a magnet inside to remove the electrics from contact with the fuel, and agree it's the perfect solution. It's well made and very good value (I priced up the cost of the Saab sender used in the TankZilla over here with a view to making the interface myself and let's just say that Rob Grady doesn't take the P with the price of the TankZilla - the sender really is very expensive! That said, there's nothing wrong with using copper or brass for electrical connections immersed in petrol. The problem with the OEM sender is related to the stupid design of the float's sliding contact and light contact - Lucas seemed to think that as long as two bits of metal touched, they could be relied apon as connections - the defrost switch suffers the same stupidity. The other reason the OEM sender fails is high proportion of water contamination of DeLorean fuel tanks due to the fuel pump boot failure, the breather valve in the tank and poor sealing of the filler neck. Add a tiny amount of water to the sender already full of petrol fumes and the copper corrodes at an alarming rate. I was also extremely puzzled by how fuel actually enters the unit - your comment about the screws not actually doing anything might be a clue. Then again maybe the screw are plugging holes that were deemed unnecessary, in the same way as the TankZilla has rivets in it (?). As to the price - I'm sure it's just priced at a level to ensure it's *competitive*. The bane of all other fuel senders to date is that they have electrical contacts exposed to fuel where they corrode and rot. This one has a float with magnets (?) inside that are sensed by a sealed inner tube. Nothing electrical touches the fuel. It appears so well made that to install anything else would be a waste of time. The design of this one should make it many more times reliable & durable. Considering the market, they could have gotten away with charging much more for it. The only thing that puzzles me is how the fuel gets in through the bottom. I suppose the pieces fit loose enough together that fuel flows quickly enough through. If silt ever accumulated inside, it might plug up. But it would take a really long time for that to happen. If any of you want to take one apart, hold the big screw slot on the bottom still while unscrewing the outer tube from the top of the sensor. The two little screws on the bottom do nothing but fill holes. I don't see why they even have them there unless maybe they used them to insert rods to hold the float at certain levels while they calibrated it. But then who knows?
