I heard NPR's newsmagazine All Things Considered do a piece on the 
Nigerian 419 scam and its predecessors (one was done via REAL mail, long 
before the Internet was around!) several months ago. So the few hundred 
or so people listening may have got a tip and a bit of history there.

But aside from that I've never heard anything in the news media or a 
Pubic Service Announcement about such things. I guess they rely on the 
"buyer beware" tactic.
