He threw it together in an hour. That's all the time his small design team could devote to it. The underbodies were cast in another part of the factory and entered the assembly line through a "hole in the wall." That part of the process was continuous (the only part of the factory that ran 24 hours per day). As Jim's team was struggling to figure out how to assemble the first cars, underbodies kept coming through the wall, like a scene from "I Love Lucy." They would grap yet another underbody, stack it in the corner with the others, and continue trying to figure out how to put the car together. Because no one had designed a steering wheel, the first cars were maneuvered around the factory with Vise Grips clamped onto the steering column. Jim brought a multiple choice test his team wrote as a joke, one question on which was "what shape will the eventual steering wheel be?" One of the possible answers was "a pair of Vise Grips." Pick up a copy of Videobob's DVD to see the entire presentation. Bob did a nice job of documenting the presentations, but unfortunately left the remainder of Pigeon Forge off (only passing glimpses of the car display, Dragon Run, etc).
