Ryan, The cost you cited for the EV 1 included the cost for research, development and other associated costs. This was a reference provided by GM "GM's forward progress, facts vs. fiction 6-26-06. GM has since removed this citation from the internet. Surely GM is a reliable source for these numbers. But wait. There's more! Interestingly, GM also claimed they spent $1 billion dollars on this car, though a portion of this cost was defrayed by the Clinton administration funding of battery research. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Motors_EV1 YET, in 1998, they claimed, they had only spend $400 million. http://www.evworld.com/archives/testdrives/gmev1.html Gee, $600 million dollars in more costs AFTER the car was into production. Seems to me SOMEONE was cooking the books to make the car look bad - so they could kill it. And make money for their oil friends. Can I have some of this imaginary $600 million? I could retire sooner. Bob Yahoo!
