Sadly this is also a perfect example of previous owners who didn't take care
of the car and wound up selling to someone on e-bay for more then its worth.
I can totally appreciate where Lauren is coming from on this. When I got my
car, I went broke doing many repairs (although it was only about $5k total
that I laid out) and it is a tough cookie to swallow, but It could have been
a lot worse....

Luckily, I started looking at buying a Delorean before I could REALLY afford
it and it wound up saving me quite a bit of money and teaching me some
important lessons along the way. My original plan was to buy a car cheap
for $8-10K and put work into it. THANK GOD I didn't go that route! I
quickly realized that a $8-10K would cost me EASILY $20-30K MORE over
several years time to make it a decent car. Instead of dumping that much
money and wasting all that time, I postponed my search for a year, saved a
little more money up, researched a little more, took an informative trip out
to PJ Grady to get some insight, and eventually wound up getting my car via
private sale for $14k (plus $5K shortly afterwards for needed repairs). End
result is that my car is appraised at $20K (prob. more now with other work
done since) and I dump approx $1K in each year on little projects to keep it
up to date and running well. I am sure that most of you that know me from
the DMA would agree that the estimated value is right on target with the
condition of my car. I don't really expect to ever make money from my car,
but it tends to hold its value just fine.

Hang in there Lauren! I know that you love that car, and you have taken
good care of it. If you have to slow down on repairs after this for a
while, then do so to save more $ for future upgrades.... Also don't forget
to ask for help from the community. I have found many people that are more
then willing to lend a hand, garage, tools, parts and time to help you out
and get some of your smaller issues fixed.

The Delorean community is a friendly place. :)

Exactly, and the hard part is probably over. When you start getting into
the cosmetic stuff where you actually see big changes happen fast it will
re-energize your enjoying the car. :)
In addition, you should be way less stressed out since Rob is working on the
car. Imagine if you took it to just some random shop.
