Rob,

I would have to say its equally loud... cold or hot.

On the thought of clogged oiling passage... would you recommend 
trying an engine flush product or is that just asking for more 
trouble?

Also, would it be reasonible to try a heavier weight oil (Im using 
10w-30 now) to see if the noise quiets down?  Say, maybe a 20w-50?
