[DMCForum] Re: Video Bob -- Running Rich or Lean

I've been staying out of this thread (been busy with a thread of my
own), but now have time to piss everyone else off:

Pull all 6 of your plugs and look at their condition. Spark plugs are
like windows into your combustion chambers. In fact, short of pulling
the heads, they are the clearest indication of what's going on inside
your engine (compression gauge notwithstanding).

Personally, I'd suspect you're either running too high a heat range
plug (longer insulator), too much spark advance, or too lean of a
fuel/air mixture.

If a spark plug is either melted itself or has little globlets of
melted aluminum on it, you most likely have a vacuum leak. Pistons can
have a hole melted right through them from a spark plug not tightened
down all the way. I lost all 3 plugs on my driver's side on the way
home from SEDOC several years ago from a tiny crack in that big 1/4"
vacuum line under the console.

Anyone care to tell me I'm full of it?
