Your absolutely correct Marc.
Here is my reasoning for the double price.
If I am selling a single disc I will be sending it all by itself in an
envelope like
I do my other videos.
They don't include a box or sleeve.
However, if I do a double disc set I go ahead and put it in a double case
with a color wrap, two color printed DVD's which each have to be burned
in separate cycles.
I admit, this is maybe $2 worth of materials and another $1.50 shipping.
Where does the money go?
I have to sit here and burn the discs, take them out of the duplicator
and put them in the printer, take that and put it in the case,
print the sleeve, cut all four sides of it to fit in the case, slide it in
the box, etc. etc. etc.....
None of this is considering the 8 hours I spent capturing the video,
or all the time it takes to edit it, or shooting it at the event for that
matter.
I don't charge anyone for shooting and editing this stuff so I make
up my time on the back end when I sell the DVD.
I feel it is more than a fair price.
I know you don't believe me, but I don't do this for the money.
I feel that it is my obligation to use my talents to document this stuff
on video and distribute it to the community.
That's what I do. (hence the name: VIDEOBOB)
But in my mind, if you don't get paid for it you are just an amateur.
Getting paid for it makes me feel like I am doing something good because
people are willing to pay for it.
That is why I make it as reasonably priced as possible.
Most special interest videos like this are priced at $40 or etc.
If someone is not willing to give me $10 or $20 for my efforts then
they don't deserve to watch my video. That's my feeling on it.
I drove to Houston, stayed at the Sofitel and paid to attend the event.
So with fuel, hotel, (rented porno in the room), food and the event I
have spent about $700 on the trip.
Most people who flew in spent 3 times that.
So for the price of $10 or $20 you get to live or relive the whole event.
Not too shabby.
I have no shame in selling these videos, I take great pride in them.
Despite the markup I don't really make much money off of these videos
at all no matter how much value you place on my time.
Thanks for your opinions Marc, and you of course may exorcise your
right to choose not too purchase the video.
