The cars were not shipped here to the USA, they were flown. There was a 
specially built, hidden, top secret, airfield & run way at the factory in Northern 
Ireland. The airfield and run way were behind the test track. If you look very 
close in some pictures of the test track, you will see the hidden gate behind 
the last curve of the high bank curve, just before the water splash and 
cobblestone pavers. This was the secret entrance to the airfield.

 The employees assigned to shipping the cars were not real DMCL employees. 
They were secret agents. They were responsible for opening both doors and 
fitting a remote control receiver into the diagnostic socket in the engine 
compartment. (I wondered why that unused thingy was there too) 

When the cars reached Max speed, they became airborne and flew secret 
missions to the USA. This is how the rumor of JZD shipping drugs in the cars became 
DeLorean lore...he was flying secret missions for Air America!

As soon as investors saw the prototypes they knew the potential for 
DeLorean's car.  A very strong engine capable of massive horsepower (remember Renault 
was winning Formula One and Two races around the world in the late 1970s with a 
very modified turbo PRV) to get the car up to take off speed, gullwing doors 
to get a car airborne, a fiberglass underbody that would float if there was a 
crash landing at sea.  If there was an emergency the cars would float to shore 
& they wouldn't rust thanks to the ingenious stainless steel body panels. The 
stainless helped the car to avoid radar at low altitude too. 

With all of these technological features the investors wanted in on the 
action. They knew that what the car was capable of and knew it would fly. They told 
DeLorean that the cars would be unharmed, however that remote control device 
thingy that plugged into the diagnostic socket really de-tuned the engines and 
reduced horsepower.  That was part of the cover up...do reduce the horsepower 
so that the cars wouldn't fly secret missions again.

 As part of his agreement with "them/they" to get the car into production, 
and so he would have no difficulty starting the company and building the 
assembly plant, he agreed to fly special missions for Air America and deliver their 
cargo.

The cars landed in a secret air fields at John DeLorean's farm estates in New 
Jersey and San Diego. The cars were washed and unpacked of it's cargo and 
remote control receiver.

They were then loaded onto trucks and delivered to the QAC's in Irvine 
California and Bridgewater New Jersey. 

It worked for a short time. However when JZD wanted out of the secret air 
missions for Air America, and threaded to go public with the operation, they 
forced him out of business.

Cargo is delivered in a ship.
A shipment is delivered on a truck.

Yeah...it's late and I'm bored. I hope you all got a good laugh. ;-) haha
