Yeah, so am I.  It's my brother's 24 foot boat which he uses for 
waterskiing.  (You'd have to ask him for detailed specifications.)  Oh, 
and he drives a 260 horsepower 1.8 liter turbocharged "buzzy engine" and 
tows it, too.
Your misguided assertions about the abilities of little engines were true 
in the past, but they're just plain wrong today.  Modern turbochargers 
spool up very very quickly and let their engines reach maximum torque as 
low as 2000 rpm.
The only replacement for displacement is technology.  :)
