On the DeLorean, anually(sp?) or less. On other vehicles, when the
manual dictates which is usually quite a while.
The DeLorean's fuel filtration is sub-par. In my Chilton's Bosch
fuel injection manual it states that our main-line fuel pressure is
so high, that residual water in the gasoline is pushed right through
the filter up into the fuel distributor. Can't be helped. It also
states that you should pre-moisten the filter with fuel because if
you leave the element dry and 75 psi slams the filter, bits of paper
can tear off and clog the line.
I think the last part is a bit extreme. I usually just feather the
RPM relay to more gently ease fuel into the filter. Once I'm sure
the lines and filter are full again, I stop.
And yes, it's time to change your filter. Spend $10 bucks will ya? :)
