As a 17-year-old enthusiast, I have to agree with the list. I love
these cars, but never in the last few years of reading and learning
did I ever think about borrowing someone's to drive to anything
without them being there. (Part of this has to do with my abhorrence
of school dances.. but that's another story). 

These cars aren't priceless except to their owners. 250 miles is a bit
far for any renting anyway.. 

I know this sounds like everyone's hating on you because you're young.
That's not true, it's just that asking to borrow somebody else's
baby/dream car/obsession would be like asking to borrow a wife or
girlfriend. It's just not done. 

I honestly hope you find someone willing to oblige you and that you
have a great time at your prom. I just don't think there are any
people who would be willing to loan out their DMC to a high-schooler
from as far as 250 miles away. Like I said, most people wouldn't rent
out any car of theirs for that distance. 

If you really do love the cars and aren't just trying to impress your
friends and your date, look around. I'd bet there's at least one
nearby, probably more. There's one in my town, and there's NOTHING
here. Read up on the cars, read this list and maybe the DML as well,
and learn about them. I won't be in a position to buy one of these
cars for about a year, unless I get lucky, but that's at the cost of
two years of reading and a few stupid and humbling attempts to get old
beat-up ones (don't do it). 

Bottom line, you can't just borrow (or rent) a car that is probably
someone's most prized earthly posession.
