I used to do the very same thing, but I thought I was just being
cheap. This was before MP3 and cable modems came around. That was
how I "bootlegged" the current new music. I even went so far as to
convert it to .wav and then the old .wav to mp3 conversion. The I'd
have my own bootlegged CD back when CD burners almost cost $500.

Back in the day, how far we've come.
