A little late... 

But as for the pork and stuff in the Old Testament.. Jesus said that
eating things doesn't make you unclean (Matthew 15 I believe). It
wasn't a sin to eat pork, but it was a regulation (as opposed to a
commandment) and yes, it was supposedly to keep people from dying of
trichinosis.

And if God just told you he was there to "prove" himself to you, what
would be the point of faith at all? He might as well take away free
will, because we'd have no choice anyway - once we know God is there
beyond a doubt, it'd take a pretty dumb person to ignore it. 

So in other words, God doesn't have to prove himself to you. If you
want to know if he's there, do some searching and have some faith.
