Cool. I figured out what you were talking about. You taped the new cable to
the old one and pulled it through the body to the radio, correct?

My antenna is all one piece.  In order to replace the mast you 
replace the cable as well as it is all attached 

BTW I got my replacement at Advance auto for $8
