A good friend of mine did something similar. After he had his first 
kid he decided to "invest" in a huge insurance policy which meant 
refinancing the mortgage. I told him insurance was meant to replace 
your income if you die, not to make someone an instant millionaire at 
your expense. 

I know the idea is to allow kids opportunities that the parents did 
not have, but one of those opportunities is the ability to sustain 
yourself and that almost anything is possible if you want it bad 
enough (that's how I am driving a Delorean!).
