Yeah, my post was a bit pre-mature.  After taking out one of the 
speakers, all my questions were answered.  The wire with the "white 
trace" on it is the positive, going to the wider prong on the 
speaker, and this is doubly confirmed by a red marking (looks like it 
was done with a sharpie or something) on the metal of the wider prong 
on the speaker.  Even better, the connectors are the same size as the 
ones on the new Pioneer speakers I bought, so they can literally be 
swapped out without messsing with any wiring, unless one so desires.
(I'll leave my original wiring at this time).
