Yup. I don't even think it's general jargon - just something we started 
calling aluminium whilst working on the robot

Ti = titanium
Ally = aluminium
Polycarb = polycarbonate.

There are some more daft ones, one in paticular comes to mind that's a 
made-up rhyming slang for "nut" but I won't go there as it has something 
to do with a DML member....
