Diesels are more harmful to us humans but less harmful to the
environment because of particulate emissions, which doesn't affect plant
life. BUT modern exhausts and cleaner burning direct injection diesels
are every bit as clean, if not cleaner, than their petrol coutnerparts.
My Citroen Xantia 2.0 HDi is a category A car (it's how cars are taxed
in thic country), the 2 litre petrol version is group C which is a lot
"dirtier", is margnially more powerful, puts out a lot less torque, is
less efficient, and actually noisier in drive-by noise tests.
I like diesels, as does continental europe. For some reason the US
goverment doesn't.
