Why? Late 81's are fine. All the major production changes were done by 
around 4000 or so. Mine is a late 81, VIN 6820 and is fine. I somewhat 
agree with you on very low VIN 81's, but even there, if a previous owner 
has done a good job of going through the car it will be fine.
