Bill, you're right, you never said that. I misunderstood what you said. I apologize... It seemed to me at the time that it made more sense that you mixed up advanced/retarded instead of arguing that retarding increases knock. A knock sensor by definition retards timing when activated. It's easy to get confused when even you are contradicting yourself. First you say, >Back to 10, then start predetonating. Up to 13 and lose power. and then >Here's a little jewel from my new Volvo documentation been reading all >night (B28F Manual, Section 2, Group 26, Page 21): "When the ignition >advances the engine efficiency increases and the combustion >temperature decreases." So does advancing increase power or lose power? Are you saying the swedes are wrong? Or that increasing efficiency loses power? >Predetonation is an uncontrolled explosion. Why do you think spark >gaps are specified? To control flame propogation. I think spark gaps are specified to get the correct voltage/duration of spark that is needed for the engine to not misfire given the setup of the engine and ignition system. Spark plugs don't control flame propagation, they start it. >Is better to shoot spark sooner than to let mixture combust on its >own. What in the world do you think those advance mechanisms are doing >on distributor anyway? They're not "anti-detonation control mechanisms"!! They're for power and flame propagation timing. >If you really feel this way I suggest you disable spark advance on >your distributor immediately (don't forget those pesky counterweights)... If I feel that to far advancing timing causes knock? Jim ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand!
