I totally do not understand. Why would anyone want a "modern" engine. Hasn't auto industry been in sad decline for past 25 years? Don't confuse mere forward progression of time with actual progress... FWIW I did have a modern 1985 truck. De-emissioned and disconnected onboard computer. Will eventually replace distributor for vacuum advance, then will be normal. Oh, I do like electronic ignition. Replaced points on my '69 engine with a neat module Pertronix puts out.
