Also check hoses connecting calipers to brake lines. Could be old &
spongy (fluid expanding hoses rather than pressing pistons).

Brake fluid sucks up moisture. Water has terrible hydraulic
properties.  Also rusts system from inside out. That's why people so
fastidious about changing every couple of years.
